A Germanwings Airbus A319-100, registration D-AGWY performing flight 4U-7218 from Hamburg (Germany) to Stockholm (Sweden) with 141 passengers, was climbing out of Hamburg when the crew stopped the climb at FL150 due to an unidentified odour on board causing respiratory problems and nausea to a number of passengers. The aircraft returned to Hamburg for a safe landing on runway 15 about 20 minutes after departure. Waiting emergency services took care of 6 passengers, 3 passengers were delivered to hospitals with respiratory problems.
Local Emergency services confirmed the aircraft returned due to an unknown odour on board, 6 passengers required medical attention, 3 of them were taken to hospitals with respiratory irritations. The cause of the odour is unclear.
