BALPA: Pilots call for investigation in to aircraft air filters
The following evidence has been acquired by the Aerotoxic Association from a BA cabin crew regarding the BA Fume event accident in an Airbus A 380 on 24th October 2016.
We have a duty to publish this and other flight safety critical accident evidence in the public domain, as it is in the public interest.
INFORMATION REGARDING BRITISH AIRWAYS FUME EVENT A FEW DAYS AGO: (SOURCE)
“The crew member said they noticed a strong smell on boarding . Still, everything was OK’d for take off . Overhead Calgary the captain made the decision to divert . Crew in the upper deck on the A380 had smoke hoods on . Crew at the rear of the plane were disorientated and acting strange . Symptoms were strong headaches, really dizzy , strong smell of chemicals.
Assumptions are that the company told flight crew to divert but keep it quiet and not mention to the crew to avoid attention. They would never divert unless something was wrong.
Emergency fire crew got on-board and were told not to tell anyone what they found . My friend asked and the fire-man said: “We’ve been warned, we are not allowed to tell you . But we’ve found evidence of fumes and a serious chemical leak ” .
The guy was seen telling his crew member and was taken off board. Crew overheard him being told: ” You’ve been warned not to talk to the crew!!!
Another crew member said : ” BA have been using a new thing (? ), that’s different to what they were using . It’s causing fumes on A380 . Something is radically wrong . They (airlines) like cutting corners to save money .
The crew were debriefed in London . Most of them are too scared to get tested. The hospital was crap didn’t know what tests needed to be done and sent them away . They only had a General check up .”
