Public Statement 7th April 2017 by John Grahame Hoyte to the Court of public opinion.
On 16th March 2012 the Aerotoxic Association (www.aerotoxic.org) received an e mail from Richard Westgate (RW) in which he briefly explained that he had been in a Road Traffic Accident (RTA) six months previously but he was then investigating other causes for his illness as the ‘docs hadn’t got a clue’ and he needed both medical and legal assistance.
As Chairman of the Aerotoxic Association and having had countless other inquiries and testimonies from both aircrew and passengers over the past 5 years with the same medical and legal difficulties, I replied immediately (as noted in my diary) and I next heard from Dr Michel Mulder that RW had gone to The Netherlands and that Frank Cannon of Cannons Law was handling his legal case against BA.
I never met RW but we did start to exchange e mails and these still exist in storage along with my diaries – we also had long Skype calls where RW began to understand the Aerotoxic health scandal and we discussed his long standing health issues which are similar to mine and many other affected grounded flying colleagues.
Other international aircrew known to me actually physically met RW personally in 2012, as they were also being medically treated in The Netherlands by Dr Mulder, as was I at the time.
I had kept a detailed personal diary at the time as a paper trail of evidence, which includes the period in 2012, when I was in touch with RW.
In the months leading up to RW’s death we were both actively planning to take the Aerotoxic health scandal to The European Court of Human Rights in The Hague as RW wanted to do something to help others and he also wanted ALL pilots to be DNA tested at annual medicals, which is also recorded as evidence in detailed, dated diaries.
In late March 2016 I handed over all of my RW e mails and my diaries for copying by the present lawyers, whilst I was overseas in Australia and New Zealand.
I am surprised that my extenisive evidence was not called for by the second Coroner for the RW inquest, as I had first advised RW about the medical specialists in The Netherlands in March 2012 and was in contact with him regularly until he died on the 12th December 2012, which was all accurately recorded at the time and can still be viewed, if required.
I have never met anyone such as RW who would intentionally take his own life; all pilots live to fly and to serve.
At the inquest into the death of Richard Westgate on 6th April 2017 another pilot, Richard Reynolds, was called to give evidence to the Court – however he had only been telephoned by RW about a week before RW died and for only a 30 minute conversation.
Why was Richard Reynolds called to give evidence, but not me?
The Court was also told that Professor Gordon Turnbull treated RW and Professor Turnbull also dealt with me in 2004/5 when I had many of the same symptoms as RW and Professor Turnbull knew about the Aerotoxic health scandal as he had dealings with me, Len Lawrence and many others pilots over toxic air exposure illness, which is all documented evidence held by lawyers.
Why has Professor Gordon Turnbull not been called by the Coroner’s Court to give his evidence?
The Court was also told that RW had been disappointed by the UK doctors and specifically Dr Rob Hunter of BALPA (British Airline Pilots Association) who should have been aware of the BALPA Contaminated Air Conference of April 20/21st 2005 where the following conclusions were distilled suggesting that BALPA knew about contaminated toxic air and its effect on past BALPA members such as me, Richard Westgate and countless other aircrew.
Why wasn’t Dr Rob Hunter of BALPA called to give evidence to the inquest at the Coroner’s Court?
I am concerned that if my personal evidence is not made public I will be held in contempt of Court for deliberately perverting the course of justice and withholding evidence from the Coroner’s Court, which is a most serious matter.
I have a duty to share my evidence in public, as it concerns human health and safety and it is in the public interest.
I am available to the Coroner’s Court to give my evidence.
