Shortly after take-off from Vienna, an AUA aircraft had to turn back today (16. May 2017). The pilots had decided on a so-called safety landing.
The Bombardier Q400 with the identification OE-LGJ was supposed to fly as OS 917 from Vienna to Salzburg. On board were four crew members (2 cockpit / 2 cabin) and 54 passengers. But shortly after the take-off, an “unusual smell” occurred in the cockpit, as an AUA spokesman confirmed.
Although all systems “worked without problems”, the crew decided to return to Vienna. “We do not compromise on security,” said AUA spokesman Wilhelm Baldia. The passengers were taken to Salzburg by bus transfer: “We regret the inconvenience,” says the airline.
The aircraft was handed over to AUA Technics directly after landing and is currently under review. Baldia: “The cause of the odor development has not yet been found.”
