A Lufthansa Airbus A319-100, registration D-AILF performing flight LH-235 from Rome Fiumicino (Italy) to Frankfurt/Main (Germany), departed Rome with a delay of 6 hours following an on time arrival and was descending towards Frankfurt when the crew donned their oxygen masks due to a strong odour in cockpit and cabin of the aircraft. The aircraft continued for a safe landing in Frankfurt.
The odour was described to The Aviation Herald as smell of old socks and dog causing eye irritation and difficulties with breathing.
The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Frankfurt 48 hours after landing.
