To whom it may concern.

It has been long accepted and admitted that compressed air from jet engines has been contaminated with engine oil which contains many harmful chemicals including VOC’s and Organophosphate substances which are universally accepted to be harmful to health with well-known symptoms.

The UK Government has been aware and discussing the problem for a number of years whilst the vast majority of the public and medical profession remain completely unaware of scale and extent of the problem.

As a result of 27 pilots’ blood and fat being tested in March – May of 2006 with associated memory and cognitive function tests carried out at the same time by UCL (University College London) it has revealed shocking and incontrovertible evidence that there is a serious health hazard for anybody who flies in these aeroplanes; especially the crews and is therefore a serious flight safety issue. The report will be available from May 22nd 2006, but may be restricted in its distribution for obvious reasons.

Other people that have also been at risk are the entire Royal family and senior members of the Government who have flown on the BAe 146 for the last twenty years and cannot have escaped the same contamination.

The BAe 146 and Boeing 757 are well known for being the worst offenders of commercial airliners, possibly due to sharing a similar make of APU or Auxiliary Power Unit and its use on the ground.

There have been many incidents and fatal accidents attributed to ‘fatigue’ and ‘pilot error’ on the BAe 146 and B. 757 over the years but never any suggestion that contaminated air is fundamentally to blame.

I wish to make it clear that due to intense covering up of the phenomenon over the past ten years or more it is now my duty to point out that any accident in the future should be regarded as probably being caused by this effect and for any suggestion that it is not a factor to be subject of a criminal enquiry and manslaughter charges for those people denying the link.

Previous Statements

My previous Statements were written on 22 May 2006 and 10 January 2022 and is now updated on 30 May 2022 as a result of new evidence.

Since 10 January 2022 the following has occurred:

I received the following e mails from BBC Radio Shropshire to john.hoyte@aerotoxic.org

9th February 2022 @ 1405 UTC.

Hi John

I found your blog online after I was searching for someone connected to the airline industry around Shropshire

I was looking for a guest to talk about their career in our ‘cool seat’ – we chat to someone local to the area about their interesting career!

I was wondering  if you would be interested in coming on?

Kind regards

Andy

Hi John

Lizfrom BBC Radio Shropshire here, I spotted an article in the local paper how you are relocating to Shropshire and looking for a new business administrator.

I work on the afternoon show and we have a daily local business slot where we chat to local companies about what they do and also opportunities for local people too. I just wondered if you fancied coming on and chatting about aero toxic and moving to Shropshire and also potential jobs for locals too. It would be lovely to chat to you on the show and welcome to Shropshire!

Kind Regards

Liz

BBC SHROPSHIRE

I replied positively to both e mails and sent further evidence by registered post to BBC Radio Shropshire, but no written reply has been forthcoming.

So, an e mail was sent to Chris King of BBC Radio Shropshire on 17th May 2022 @ 1345 who is a full time BBC staff member, which was acknowledged by phone to have been received afterwards by another BBC staff member:

Dear Chris,

I’ve been kindly given your name as a senior news desk editor as I live in Bridgnorth.

Yesterday, the Shropshire Star published the following news story about my links with Aerotoxic Syndrome: https://www.shropshirestar.com/news/local-hubs/bridgnorth/2022/05/13/pilot-welcomes-breakthrough-in-fight-against-aerotoxic-syndrome/ and in July 2021 the SS published this report as I hoped to live in Shropshire but I have now settled down again: https://www.shropshirestar.com/news/local-hubs/oswestry/2021/07/01/pilot-fights-for-aerotoxic-syndrome-to-be-officially-recognised/

I would welcome the opportunity to share with BBC radio Shropshire my experiences of what I know will soon be widely published in the USA, especially as our ‘A Group’ appear to have made a Darwin like discovery, which others have missed plus a relatively easy solution with my 16th anniversary of discovery of toxic cabin air will be on 22 May 2022.  See attached ‘A Group’ letter to President Biden of 4 April 2022.

As I few happily for 5 years in Shropshire in the 1980’s I also have some rare flying stories, photos & films including my first serious accident, which happened at Glazeley on 1 June 1982.

I was first contacted by BBC radio Shropshire both in February and March 2022, but I think the time is right now to share my public interest evidence with a BBC senior journalist as there is a back story to the Star report and I would be grateful of some professional help with how to handle it, due to its serious potential.

Many thanks,

Kindest regards,

John Hoyte

In addition, I have been working with Hadleigh Works of Oswestry https://hadleighworks.com/  who helped with a media release which after 6 weeks finally resulted in this Shropshire Star article of 15 May 2022:

https://www.shropshirestar.com/news/local-hubs/bridgnorth/2022/05/13/pilot-welcomes-breakthrough-in-fight-against-aerotoxic-syndrome/

…………………………………………………………………………………………………

In early March 2022 due to my former MP Clive Lewis of Norwich South not answering any formal correspondence since 2105 and my local EDP newspaper after refusing to cover any news evidence of Aerotoxic Syndrome (AS) and my mother HM Hoyte MBE not being supportive of public exposure – I relocated back to Shropshire, where I lived and flew from 1982-1987.

I was impressed by the offer of BBC Radio Shropshire unsolicited e mail request of 9th February 2022 – see above and another e mail after moving as I am still trying to establish both of my companies to help the public as soon as possible but I still have an overdraft, no house, no car and my few remaining possessions are in storage as I wait for public awareness and then help with public funding for public research work, whilst living with an undiagnosed health disability by the NHS since 1990.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………

In early March 2022 I attended the Unitarian Church of Shrewsbury and met some like-minded locals who have similar values of social justice and an interest in science and was inspired by Charles Darwin who had attended the church as I and my colleagues have possibly discovered a similar breakthrough in science, particularly in the past 6 months.

I met a church official after I had filled in a church registration form and as I was living in a relatively expensive Airbnb in Shrewsbury at the time I asked if I could stay with her as a ‘Norfolk Refugee’ and she kindly agreed.

I explained my work, and health situation fully and have since discovered the following:

  1. Many of her friends and colleagues are now aware of my work and my 2014 published AS book. Aerotoxic Syndrome – Aviation’s Darkest Secret.
  2. Has two local friends who had prior personal knowledge of experiencing ‘Aerotoxic Syndrome’ as passengers one who already knew about the disease, and one did not.
  3. Has 50 year old friends who flew for BA and have experienced ill health symptoms which may have been caused, as with others, from their flying and will be met first on 30 May 2022 @ 1030.

I am concerned about meeting new friends, as I am worried about what they may tell me of their ‘mysterious’ ill health symptoms which occurred whilst flying, as I’ve been hearing similar evidence for the past 16 years from countless other aircrew and passengers as in my Statement of 22 May 2006. Suitable medical tests, such as ‘Blood & fat tests’ which were available in 2006 and would now confirm positive exposure to toxic chemicals.

I have been indebted especially to the Unitarian Church of Shrewsbury for their kind and generous welcome and many members of the congregation now know about AS from two Shropshire Star articles of 2021 and 2022 and my part. A 2017 Shropshire Star aerotoxic article has not yet been shared.

However due to a relatively slow understanding I am still looking for awareness in other ‘Awake’ group members of the public who might actively support balanced media coverage in the public interest and presentation of evidence to a public court, as few lawyers are aware or available.

Thompson solicitors who have been representing over 260 Unite aerotoxic claimants for around five years but are only available to Union members with AS legal expert Michael Rawlinson QC representing some claimants:  https://www.kingschambers.com/all-silks/michael-rawlinson-qc/

1 June 2022 will be the 40th anniversary of my first serious flying crash at Glazeley, Shropshire and I have given my ‘story’ to journalist Toby Neal of the Shropshire Star as a matter of public interest, and I plan to visit the crash site on 31st May 2022 with a former Shropshire farmer friend and former Chair of Shropshire Aero Club at Sleap when I flew in the county in the 1980’s.

Toby Neal previously wrote about my Flight Attendant colleague Angel Brain’s story on Aerotoxic Syndrome on 29 May 2017: https://www.shropshirestar.com/news/health/2017/05/29/grounded-angel-says-flying-wrecked-her-health/

As the launch of the Aerotoxic Association Ltd. The Charity was on 18 June 2007 at the House of Parliament, London – I will be sending out invitations soon to the survivors to mark this 15th anniversary.

I have engaged BBC journalist Maxine Croxall (MC) for a quoted fee of £1500 for two hours work https://www.specialistspeakers.com/?p=8774  to cover this anniversary date after MC interviewed me live on BBC News on 22 February 2015 for 2 ½ minutes and I was instructed by the BBC to not mention 1) My airlines (TNT & Flybe) and 2) The words ‘Cover-up’.

I have led a UK/US A Group comprising around 10 other international AS experts for the past 15 months on every Friday afternoon (Sanity Friday) a Zoom meeting which includes our group spokesman former aviation insurance assessor expert Captain John Lind of the US – father of an AS harmed Flight Attendant since 2011; a former medical practitioner whose life has been indirectly affected by AS; Professor Jeremy Ramsden, an AS expert; Graeme Davidson a noted AS engineer; a former GPO sub postmaster and Chartered Accountant; a Canadian clean air filtration solution expert; several other affected US/UK aircrew.

We have as A Group, discovered a new perspective of AS – Carbon Monoxide which is cited in all previous published toxic cabin air evidence since the 1950’s and we will be publishing our logic in the next few weeks in the US & UK.

Here is a DRAFT abstract which has been written by a former medical practitioner which will be circulated in advance of the main paper and then formally first published on 18 June 2022:

DANGER IN THE AIR

30 May 2022

When flying as a passenger in a commercial aircraft is there any danger in breathing in the air?  Although you will be told aircraft air is pretty clean – cleaner than the air in your home and office, is this always true?

Except for the Boeing B787 Dreamliner, commercial aircraft pump all the air we breathe from a place deep inside each jet engine, only separated from hot jet engine oil by a spinning seal that gets worn and should be replaced at regular intervals but owing to the cost of doing so these intervals in maintenance have tended to become longer and longer.    When these seals become worn, toxic contaminant particles and gas can now get from the oil into the aircraft air in increasing number.  The poisonous gas carbon monoxide and a whole host of organophosphates (nerve agents) and finally ultrafine particles are found in aircraft air – unfortunately, none of these are large enough to be stopped by filters. The poisonous items in the aircraft air vary in concentration according to how worn the sealing systems have become.  On occasion, so many contaminants enter the air, a ‘fume event’ occurs – here the air may have started to smell and can become visibly hazy. The only way to find out the true state of aircraft air is to fit equipment that can continuously monitor and record the presence of these toxic items in real time.  This is urgent, as a growing number of people (passengers, flight attendants and pilots) have been and are getting ill.  They present with a number of unusual but distressingly persistent complaints that affect many parts of their body in particular the brain and nervous system.  Many affected staff have been told officially they must be imagining this.  Meanwhile in 1999, this group of illnesses was published as Aerotoxic Syndrome.

In order to alleviate this state of affairs, medical protocols designed by experts should be in place, and equipment such as oxygen and other remedies should be provided to sufferers both in the aircraft and when they land.  Those patients who have suffered should not be discounted.  They should be offered what medical support there is both for them and their families.  Meanwhile the design fault that allows incoming air anywhere near hot jet engine oil needs to be re-designed in all aircraft jet engines in the future.

12 months ago, I was living in Oxford trying to get Oxford University interested in researching AS with Dr Sergei Gutnikov https://www.ndcn.ox.ac.uk/team/sergei-gutnikov with whom I stayed for several weeks leading up to 18 June 2021.

After delivering by hand three new pieces of evidence to BBC Oxford in the weeks leading up to the 14th anniversary, no interest resulted – despite the BBC reporting previous programmes to their licence fee payers – on 21 April 2008 – Panorama ‘Something in the air’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dsDznr4z5w and 24 September 2009 after I requested journalist Angus Stickler review the available evidence for BBC Radio 4 Today ‘Are planes poisonous?’: http://news.bbc.co.uk/today/hi/today/newsid_8270000/8270978.stm  and ‘Fume events: The toxic gases that may be harming aircrew and passengers’ on 25 February 2020: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/stories-51633897

“After years of gathering evidence, 10 lead cases against four UK airlines are due at the Royal Courts of Justice this year. Unite, the union behind the action, says it wants the public to know about the aviation industry’s biggest secret. “An extraordinary amount of powerful evidence has been gathered,” says General Secretary Howard Beckett.

“The simple reality for us is that our members are at risk from low-level exposure and it is a simple reality that frequent fliers will also be at risk as a result,” he told me.”

The 2009 BBC Today programme caused an Oxfordshire based BA former cabin crew and pilot to contact me and I’m still in touch with this broken up family and hold the BBC responsible.

On 18th June 2021, because the BBC had ignored all offers of new evidence, in our frustration I explained to another colleague of Oxford who is an aerotoxic passenger survivor from the 1990’s that I was going ‘to act’ at 2300.

I have been in touch several times with The Thames Valley Police since the premature death of Dr JC Balouet on 31st March 2021 and made a formal Statement at the time and had a crime number of 9th April 2021: IMC 2021 0409/1038 and was interviewed by Detective Inspector Chris Whitwell at Banbury Police station with no follow up.

Latterly, PC 3281 Andrew Capper of Thames Valley Police sent an unfinished text message on 9 May 2022 possibly in connection with the 950 premature UK aircrew deaths in the past 10 years and that one million flyers have AS in Europe alone, according to a 2016 published Dutch survey where possible fraud, and a systematic, criminal cover-up has been often suggested by others around the world as the ‘Asbestos of the skies’ where money appears to be able to ‘buy science’.

On 29 March 2022 H.R.7267 – Cabin Air Safety Act of 2022 was published:

https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/7267/text

…………………………………………………………………………………………………..

The Right honourable Tobias Ellwood MP debated Aerotoxic Syndrome on 1st July 2009 with the late John Maples MP, who was John Hoyte’s public representative and other MP’s, but since that date there appears to have been a deafening silence apart from overwhelming new peer reviewed published science, successful international legal cases, 15 annual Cabin Air conferences and rare media updates – all to be advised that there is still allegedly ‘No positive evidence’.

I am content for the BBC or any other UK media or US media to cover a balanced story of the 15th Anniversary of AeA and any other public interest new peer reviewed, published evidence of aerotoxic syndrome at www.aerotoxic.org as I believe this H&S issue would be of public interest for anyone who flies in public transport jets.

If no further contact results from the BBC leading up to 2300 on 18 June 2022 – I will consider taking further action to allow the UK public knowledge of AS, which I believe to be of public interest.

I suggest anyone wanting further information about AS positive evidence should contact Neuropsychologist Professor/Doctor Sarah Mackenzie Ross of UCL who has been working on the issue for the past 20 years. https://www.sarahmackenzieross.com/
